The Normanby Precinct
The Studio of Tableware is located in the Normanby Precinct. This is the area to the western side of Mt Eden Jail that is bounded Normanby, Boston and Mt Eden Roads that is still dominated by the Colonial Ammunition Company’s old shot tower. Originally a light industrial suburb the area has quickly developed into a retail shopping mecca with designer homewares, boutique wine merchants, furniture and lighting etc. It’s also a foodie’s paradise with interesting cafes, restaurants and bars and a couple of popular pubs. There’s everything from Sabato to Subway. The design award winning Zone 23 is a substantial complex near the corner of Mt Eden and Normanby Roads with commercial units, retailers, professional offices and apartments. There’s a lot of excitement at The Normanby Precinct and The Studio is right in the heart of it at 5 Harold Street.
Mt Eden Summit (the mountain)
The view of Auckland City and suburbs from the summit of this extinct volcano is world-renowned.
Eden Gardens
This is on the eastern slopes of the mountain and is truly a ‘Garden of Eden’. The five acres that comprise Eden Garden are a magical microcosm of the art and craft of gardening with one of the largest collections of camellias in the Southern Hemisphere. It has been described as Auckland's best-kept garden secret.
